Recreational rockets are rockets that are designed to be launched to a specific altitude. Recreational rockets can be separated into various categories, a few of them include: Model Rockets, Amateur Rockets, Experimental Rockets and Large Model Rockets.
The rocketry project will develop the team’s skills in control systems (self- balancing and self-correcting) such that these skills can be applied to furthering the plans for an autonomous Shell Eco-marathon vehicle. Furthermore, this project will be used to collect atmospheric data.
The category in which the Student Chapter is interested in is the Amateur Rocket category. These rockets consist of a propellant motor for propulsion, fins for stabilization, nose cone for aerodynamic effects, an electrical bay for telemetry and experiments, and a recovery system.
